Kindergarten Overview

  • Must be 5 years old on or before August 1st
  • Kindergarten is a full-day program
  • This program stresses the development of each student socially and academically
  • Religion is taught daily through prayer and teacher modeling
  • Students are involved in the school wide practice of the gospel values and community service projects
  • Kindergarteners attend mass and participate in Advent and Lenten activities
  • Children are exposed to and taught Christian values, not only during the religion class, but throughout the day, they are taught Catholic prayers
  • Letter recognition, phonemic awareness, phonics, story time, reading, and writing skills are used to encourage reading readiness
  • Math concepts are taught through the use of hands-on learning materials, whole and small group activities, and calendar activities
  • Students receive weekly instruction in art, music, physical education, and technology classes
  • The afternoon portion of the day focuses on enrichment activities with science and social studies
  • Small group instruction meets the needs of all learners
  • All students are evaluated three times and year using MAPS reading and math assessments
  • Quarterly standards-based report cards
  • A parent conference is scheduled each fall and spring
  • Title I and Act 89 services are provided to those qualifying students
